Motorcycling around South America... and beyond!
|
As I keep being asked about this, here are the details of vaccinations we did or already had done on
previous trips. (warning! Do your research!)
Hepatitis A: done - single dose - Last 10 years
Hepatitis B: Not required - not done
Rabies: done - require 3 jabs - last 3 years. Recommended as we got bitten, and often near bitten. Note
that dogs in some parts of south america run a bit wild and in packs, they can be very agressive. They
can be avoided on the bike, but when walking around in towns they could be very menacing.
Meningitis: not required - not done
Dyphteria/Tetanus/Polio jab: done - last 10 years
Typhoid - 1 jab - last 3 years
Yellow fever: 1 jab - last 10 years
Malaria treatment: we took 90 tablets of Doxycycline.
We never used any malaria treatment as we never went to areas that had risk of malaria.
What we did was check with local doctors or pharmacies, before going to areas where we were doubtful
about malaria risk, and we were told up to date information.
